Here is a little tip about an obscure,
not very well known, but excellent hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
The hoteI's name is "The Dynasty Inn" and I have stayed
in this very same hotel many times.
I originally found out about this hotel through an American friend
who spends most of his time in Bangkok.
I was floundering around in a not so convienient part of Bangkok
with no access to English speaking hotel
clerks or alternate food sources. The hotel was nice but very
expensive. I was basically alone and felt sort
of stranded. My friend came to visit me and became aware of my
plight and decided to take me to another
part of town to show me a new hotel. He took me to the Sukhumvit
area of Bangkok where there are many
other foreign travelers from the Americas and Europe, where English
is the common language of
communication along with some German and Italian etc.
My friend told me "this is where you need to be" and
I will never forget those words. After visiting the hotel
my friend proceeded to familiarize me with the neighborhood such
as the local restaurants which serve British
and German and American styles of food. I was really excited to
find some foods that I was more familiar with.
When away from home for any length of time, you will appreciate
being able to get a little taste of home from
time to time. My friend introduced me to a few local folks from
the neighborhood and then we went to a pub for
a few beers.
The next day I moved my belongings to the new hotel and I have
been staying there on and off ever since.
I would like to say that the more time that I spent at the recommended
hotel, the more I realized how accurate
and how helpful and how VALUABLE my friend's advice had been,
and, to this day, continues to be good advice.
